Caldwell will recognize these soldiers by placing a commemorative topper on a street sign on Bloomfield Avenue close to where the soldier lived. Pictured below is a representative sample of the topper with a gold star and the soldiers name. The names that will appear on the street sign toppers are as follows: SGT. ARTHUR ARMSTRONG, SGT. EUGENE CURLEY, PVT. ANTHONY GRASSO, LTJG JEFFERSON HOWARD, PVT VINCENT LOPRESTO, CPL JULIUS THOREN AND PFC ARNOLD VEY. The sign toppers will be installed shortly after the ceremony and will be placed along Bloomfield Avenue, as close to the side street, where the soldier resided.
Bob Calandra, a former Caldwell resident living in Fairfield, said that three of his uncles were WWII veterans who remembered friends who were killed in WWII and they had gotten him interested and he offered to help. Bev Crifasi, a North Caldwell resident and member of the Caldwell Historic Commission also offered her assistance.
