Caldwell Artist's Work Goes On Display at Montclair Gallery
RitaMarie Cimini's 'Looking Backward, Looking Forward' opens next month at Brassworks Gallery on Grove Street.
A Caldwell artist's work will go on display at the Brassworks Gallery in Montclair next month.
RitaMarie Cimini's "Looking Backward, Looking Forward," a collection of her work from the past 33 years, will be on display from June 13 to Sept. 19 at the Grove Street gallery. An opening reception will be held on Friday, June 13 from 6 to 9 p.m.
"My work has always been about trying to evoke a glimpse of an alternate reality, inviting the viewer to shift their attention from their everyday activities and to rest a while in the area presented before them," Cimini said.
Cimini focuses on the interaction of color and shifting planes for drama and entryways for the contemplative space.
"When I begin to paint, the first mark of color invokes the next. A conversation proceeds; sometimes flowing easily, sometimes haltingly," she said. "The internal response to the external world informs and invigorates the exploration undertaken in the process of painting. Each painting and each resulting body of work develops from the work done earlier. Similar motifs and images appear over and over as the path of the work evolves in a spiral."
Cimini, who received an MFA in painting and sculpture from Bennington University, has had numerous solo exhibits in galleries and universities throughout the country, and has works in private collections throughout the world.
The BrassWorks Gallery is open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For all other information, call 973-885-1251 or visit www.rmcimini.com.
