“Flushing water mains involves systematic opening of fire hydrants allowing them to flow for several minutes. Residents may experience a drop in water pressure and slight discoloration in their water following the flushing. If this occurs, it is suggested that the residents run their water until it clears. The discoloration is temporary and presents no ill health effects, but may cause staining on laundry. Residents are therefore advised to be sure water is running clear before washing clothes.”
