Caldwell University to Host Literacy Conference

Education Division to host "Open Books, Open Minds" conference on March 13

The Caldwell University Education Division will host the fourth annual “Open Books, Open Minds” conference Friday March 13 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Award-winning author, editor and publisher Marc Aronson will be the keynote speaker, presenting a discussion called “What Do We Mean by the Non in Non-Fiction.” Dr. Aronson frequently conducts workshops and holds webinars on Common Core English language arts standards as they relate to students, librarians, parents and teachers.

He is a frequent contributor to the Library Journal and author of several non-fiction books, including ”For Boys Only,” “Witch-Hunt,” “Griffin and the Dinosour” and Sugar Changed the World.”

Stephen Baker will be the luncheon speaker, presenting a discussion entitled “The Future of Knowledge in the Age of Smart Machines.” His first published book, “The Numerati” discussed the increasing role of data-mining in shaping politics, business, law enforcement and romance.

A panel discussion entitled “Girls Run the World: Writing for Today’s Independent Teen” will feature young New Jersey authors Kieran Scott, Jen Calonita, Elizabeth Eulberg and Sandra Hall.
