Caldwell-West Caldwell School Board Names New Superintendent

CALDWELLS, NJ — The Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education has named Christopher Conklin as the new superintendent of schools.

On Monday, the board announced that Conklin will succeed James Heinegg, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Conklin will take the helm of the district on July 1. Under his contract he will serve through June 30, 2025.

According to Board President Dan Cipoletti, the decision came after a rigorous search process that included gathering input from administrators, staff and community.

Caldwell-West Caldwell administrators offered the following background information about Conklin:

“Dr. Conklin began his career in education as a middle school teacher and Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant. He then served as Director of Special Services for Haledon Public Schools and Hackettstown Public Schools. Since 2011, he has been Assistant Superintendent for Pupil-Special Services in Edison Public Schools. Dr. Conklin has also taught at William Paterson University and served as a Supervisor of Child Study for the New Jersey Department of Education. He was awarded a Doctor of Education degree from Northcentral University in 2019.”

Conklin will formally be introduced to the community at the Board of Education meeting on Monday evening. The board plans to arrange opportunities for the community to meet Conklin in the coming months, administrators said.
