Chase Begins In West Caldwell, Ends With Crash In Fairfield: PD
A pair of teens from East Orange and Orange were in the car, which was reported stolen out of Maplewood, authorities said.
WEST CALDWELL, NJ — A police car chase began in West Caldwell and ended with a crash and a short foot pursuit in Fairfield last week. A pair of teens from East Orange and Orange were in the car, which was reported stolen out of Maplewood, authorities said.
The West Caldwell Police Department released the following details about the incident on social media:
“Just after midnight on Wednesday morning, November 18, West Caldwell officers were called to Eastern Parkway on a report of a motor vehicle burglary in progress. Upon arrival to the area, Sgt. Joy observed two vehicles matching the description provided by the caller, stopped in the roadway. Sgt. Joy approached the vehicles and they both fled the area toward Bloomfield Avenue. Cpl. Norrell was responding to the area and observed both vehicles emerge from Johnson Avenue and make a left turn westbound on Bloomfield Avenue. A white, four-door Honda, followed by a dark-colored SUV, took off westbound toward Fairfield. Cpl. Norrell attempted to stop the dark SUV when the vehicle accelerated away. Cpl. Norrell terminated his pursuit of the vehicle at the Fairfield town line.”
West Caldwell police continued:

“Cpl. Norrell then discovered that the white, four-door Honda had crashed and come to rest on its roof against a building at Pia Costa, 1275 Bloomfield Avenue in Fairfield. As Cpl. Norrell and Ptl. Potucek pulled into the parking lot, they observed two males climbing out of the overturned vehicle. Both actors were taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit through the Pia Costa complex.”
The Honda was reported stolen out of Maplewood, police said.
Kahsim K. Daniels, 19, of East Orange, and a 17-year-old from Orange were charged with burglary and receiving stolen property.
