Fire Rages At Animal Hospital In Essex County (VIDEO)

No animals or people were injured during a fire at an animal hospital in Fairfield on Saturday night, authorities said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — No animals or people were injured during a fire at an animal hospital in Essex County on Saturday night, authorities said.

Fairfield police received several 911 calls about a fire at the Animal Hospital of Fairfield at 428 Fairfield Road around 9 p.m.

When the first responding officers arrived on the scene, they saw heavy smoke coming from the building and forced their way inside. There were no humans or animals present at the time, the Fairfield Police Department said.

The Fairfield Fire Department, assisted by fire departments from North Caldwell, West Caldwell, Cedar Grove, Verona, Pine Brook, and Lincoln Park, worked about two hours to extinguish the blaze. The West Essex First Aid Squad stood by as a precautionary measure and to assist with rehabbing firefighters.

The Fairfield Fire Prevention Bureau is investigating the cause of the fire, authorities said.
