Mount St. Dominic Accepts Invitation to County Softball Series

Lady Lions to take on St. John Vianney in regular season matchup at Essex County Ivy Hill Park in Newark Wednesday evening.

Mount St. Dominic Academy has accepted an invitation to take part in a series of high school softball games sponsored by Essex County at Essex County Ivy Hill Park in Newark, county officials said.

The schedule, which includes two regular season games, the semifinals and finals of the Essex County Tournament, two NJSIAA state championship games and the New Jersey State Super 36 Softball All-Star Game, kicks off with a 4 p.m. Wednesday matchup featuring Livingston vs. Immaculate Conception Lodi and runs through games on Monday, June 10, officials said.

The Lady Lions play the late game beginning at 7 p.m. vs. St. John Vianney.

“The ball fields in Essex County Ivy Hill Park feature NCAA-regulation facilities with the safest and most modern playing conditions,” Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr. said. “The upgrades we made at the field have made it possible to bring the final rounds of the Essex County Softball Tournament and a state championship game to our county park,” he said. “We are proud to showcase the extraordinary talents of our student-athletes and offer exciting family-oriented events for the community. These games provide another unique way for the public to enjoy our historic park system,” he added.

  • Wednesday, May 8:  4 p.m. Livingston vs. Immaculate Conception Lodi
  • Friday, May 17: 6 p.m. Essex County High School Championship Semifinal
                             8 p.m. Essex County High School Championship Semifinal
  • Saturday, May 18: 7 p.m. Essex County High School Championship          (Sunday, May 19th – Rain Date for Semifinals or Finals)
  • Tuesday, June 4: 4 p.m. NJSIAA State Championship Non-Public B                                    6 p.m. NJSIAA State Championship Non-Public A
  • Monday, June 10: 7 p.m. NJ State Super 36 Softball All-Star Game

This will be the ninth consecutive year that the Essex County Softball Tournament will be played in Essex County Ivy Hill Park.

The park became the official site of the tournament in 2005 after a complete $1.1 million renovation transformed the recreation complex.
