Stephen Bertonaschi Among Real Estate Forums "Fifty Under 40"

(NYSE: FCN), the global business advisory firm dedicated to helping organizations protect and enhance their enterprise value, announced that Stephen Bertonaschi, a senior managing director in the Tax Advisory group in the Real Estate Solutions practice, has been named to Real Estate Forum magazine’s “Fifty Under 40,” its annual look at “the best and brightest professionals of the next generation who are making strides in the commercial real estate industry.”

The 2019 list was selected from a “record number of submissions this year,” according to the Magazine and features individuals who have “a solid track record in the business, not just including transaction volume but also for their contribution to their company’s overall success.”

Bertonaschi, who is based in FTI Consulting’s Roseland, NJ, office, specializes in federal, state and local tax. With more than 16 years’ experience advising clients on entity formation and structuring, real estate asset acquisitions and dispositions, real estate investment trust (REIT) due diligence and compliance matters, Bertonaschi also has deep expertise in institutionally-owned real estate, with a significant focus on public REITs, partnership roll-ups, buy- and sell-side due diligence, tax accounting, like-kind exchanges, disguised sales, RIDEA tax structures and financial statement income tax provisions. He is an authority on both federal and state income tax issues with respect to proposed transactions, which allows him to create the most efficient overall tax structure for clients.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Bertonaschi was a Senior Tax Manager at The Schonbraun McCann Group (SMG), a dedicated real estate advisory firm acquired by FTI Consulting in 2008. He started his career at SMG, first as an intern and later joining the tax department full time in 2003. While at SMG, Mr. Bertonaschi focused primarily on real estate owners, operators and developers and developed a strong background in related accounting and tax issues.

A resident of Roseland, NJ, he holds a B.S. in accounting from William Paterson University and an M.S. in taxation from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He holds a graduate state and local tax certification from Fairleigh Dickinson University and is a Certified Public Accountant in New Jersey. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New Jersey State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts.
