CALDWELLS, NJ — Residents and officials in the Caldwells are making preparations amid a tropical storm warning that is impacting most of New Jersey.
Heavy rain is expected with the potential for flash floods all across the state as Tropical Storm Isaias continues its north-northeast trek, the National Weather Service's Mount Holly office said Monday morning. Tropical storm-force winds and some rain likely will arrive by daybreak on Tuesday. Isolated tornadoes are possible as well.

According to the Caldwell Police Department:
"With Tropical Storm Isaias expected to be in our area tomorrow, we are asking that all Caldwell residents put their garbage out to the curb tonight. The garbage collection will occur earlier tomorrow so that the workers are not out collecting in the height of the storm. Please be sure to put the garbage in rigid containers to prevent garbage from flying around the streets."
Caldwell police offered the following tips for local residents:

NORTH CALDWELL
The North Caldwell Police Department issued an advisory at 3:37 p.m.:
“Winds gusts are expected to be between 35 to 65 mph so take precautions to secure items outdoors that may be susceptible to high winds. Stay away from any trees or power lines that may come down as they may be energized and extremely dangerous. The North Caldwell DPW will be clearing catch basins and drainage areas. Please help the borough and your neighborhood by keeping the catch basins in front of your home clear of debris so water can drain quickly and easily. Thank you and stay safe.”
WEST CALDWELL
West Caldwell Councilman Michael Docteroff released a statement about local preparations on Monday night.
Docteroff, the public safety chair, said West Caldwell's police and fire departments, as well as the department of public works, are on call and ready to assist.
"We ask you to make sure that your devices are charged and you have flashlights ready in case of a power outage," Docteroff stated. "Please secure any items in your yard that may be affected by the high winds predicted from the storm."
In case of an extended power outage, the township will be opening the public meeting room at 30 Clinton Road which will be used as an emergency charging and cooling center, social distancing and the wearing of masks will be in effect, Docteroff stated.
