CALDWELLS, NJ — A water main replacement project will affect traffic in Caldwell and West Caldwell for about two weeks, authorities say.

The Caldwell Police Department issued a notice of construction for a water main replacement on Tuesday. According to police:

“Construction is currently scheduled to begin on Cherry Lane and Westville Avenue from Cherry Lane to Prospect Street on Thursday, July 16 and will continue through approximately July 31. Except for emergencies, all work on Cherry Lane and Westville Avenue will be performed between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Depending upon conditions, some work may be required on Saturdays. No parking will be allowed on Prospect Street during the aforementioned time period and area of operation.”

Caldwell police continued:

“Cherry Lane and Westville Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic during the construction from Cherry Lane to Prospect Street. If you need to leave your residence during the construction, please do so before 7 a.m.”

In addition:

“All residents on Westville Avenue between Cherry Lane and Prospect Street can park their vehicles on Westville Avenue east of Cherry Lane or west of Prospect Street or on Cherry Lane if you need to leave your residence after 7 a.m. All night parking will not be enforced in this area during the construction.”

Police officers will be in place to direct all vehicular traffic as well as posted detour signs, Caldwell authorities said.

“You will have uninterrupted night and weekend access to your homes and driveways,” police stated. “Any questions can be directed to the Caldwell Police Department at (973) 226-2600.”

The West Caldwell Police Department also issued an advisory about the project on Tuesday.

Police wrote:

"Please be advised that Westville Avenue will be closed between Thomas Street (Caldwell) to Lane Avenue (West Caldwell) for a Caldwell water main project. The road closure will also affect Prospect Street. The construction will start on July 16 and last until July 31. The construction will begin at 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and some Saturdays."

"Please avoid the area during this time," West Caldwell police added.
