West Caldwell Cop Makes Epi-Pen Rescue At ShopRite
A West Caldwell police officer put his newly acquired EMT certification to good use at a local supermarket, authorities said.

WEST CALDWELL, NJ — A West Caldwell police officer put his newly acquired EMT certification to good use last weekend at a local ShopRite supermarket, authorities said.
The West Caldwell Police Department gave a well-deserved shout out to Steven Huster, who came to the aid of a person suffering a severe allergic reaction on Sunday.

“On Sunday, Oct. 4, Patrolman Steven Huster, our most recent officer to obtain his EMT certification, was dispatched to ShopRite on a report of a severe allergic reaction. Patrolman Huster administered an epinephrine pen to the patient who was suffering from severe anaphylaxis. We commend Officer Huster on his fast action. The patient's condition improved almost immediately.”
The West Caldwell Police Department said it currently has 10 active EMTs who respond on all emergency medical calls.
“They are an important component in the first responder process and work in conjunction with our incredible West Essex First Aid Squad to provide vital patient care,” police said.
