West Caldwell Gymnasts Set Records At Championship Meet

CALDWELLS, NJ — Several youth members of an Essex County gymnastics studio – including residents of West Caldwell – recently brought home top honors at a championship meet.

Fairfield-based USA Twisterz had several of its young athletes post record-setting performances last month at Bishop Ahr High School the weekend of Feb. 8 to 10.

According to a news release from USA Twisterz, here were some of their achievements:

• Our XCEL Bronze team is comprised of 15 gymnasts we placed 9th in the state out of 17 gyms earning a 110.925. It was their first season competing in gymnastics for 14 of the girls. Rachael Kaminski from West Caldwell was the Floor State Champion earning a 9.5 in the 7 year old age group.
• Our XCEL Silver team is comprised of 11 gymnasts who placed 3rd in the state out of 26 teams earning a 113.45. They placed first on the floor and vault as a team. It was the first year on the Silver team for 9 of the 11 gymnasts who competed.
• Emelie Greenlee of West Caldwell broke a state record on the Floor and was the floor state champion earning a 9.7 for the 8 year old age group. She finished 2nd in the state out of 32 gymnasts in her age group earning a 37.675 in the all around.
• Giuliana D’Angelo of West Caldwell was the vault champion earning 1st place scoring a 9.25 in the 6-7 age group. She finished 3rd in the state out of 11 gymnasts!
• Abigail Luciano of West Caldwell tied a state record and earned a 9.7 on the Floor for her 9 year old senior age group. She also placed 1st out of 28 gymnasts in the all around for her age group earning an impressive 37.875 as her total score.
