Youth Choir presents Urinetown: The Musical
Performances on May 10, 11 and 12 at 7:30pm at The First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell

While most school musicals have come to an end by this time of year, the youth at The First Presbyterian Church are gearing up for their final performances. After six months of rehearsals and one week-long tour on the west coast, the youth at First Pres are excited to present Urinetown: The Musical to our community.
Performances of Urinetown: The Musical are on Friday, May 10th, Saturday, May 11th, and Sunday, May 12th at 7:30pm in Fellowship Hall at The First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, located at 326 Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door and can be purchased online at https://www.firstprescaldwell.org/urinetown-the-musical/ or in the church office.
Urinetown: The Musical, lyrics and book by Greg Kotis and lyrics and music by Mark Hollman, offers a unique “what if” story. What if in the near future the world has nearly exhausted the earth’s water supply? What if our 21st century style isn’t as sustainable as we think it is? How could a musical comedy make fun of musical comedy and make us think all at the same time?

Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown: The Musical provides a fresh perspective on one of America’s greatest art forms. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!
The choir is under the musical direction and leadership of Barbara Piercy and her husband, Noel Piercy, with the show being directed and choreographed by their daughter, Adriana Pierce. Urinetown: The Musical has everything one could ever hope for in a musical: intrigue, action, lots of dancing, and, of course, a love story,” Ms. Pierce said.

In addition to singing classic church hymns in worship on Sundays, the choir performs a cabaret and a full-length musical, annually.
Every year, the choir goes on tour performing a musical in another region of the country. This year, they traveled to Los Angeles, California to perform Urinetown: The Musical. The choir and its annual tour has been a FPC tradition for over twenty years. Over the years, the choir has produced countless young adults who later pursued music or musical theatre as their career.
