Chatham Emergency Squad Welcomes New Volunteers
New members bring various backgrounds to the job.

The new volunteers, like other members of the squad, represent a cross-section of the Chatham community.
Maya Dajee became interested in volunteering for the squad after her older son joined the cadet program two years ago. Dajee works for a leading pharmaceutical company as a biologist in early drug development. She also volunteers at food banks and senior centers.

Tom Patterson commuted to New York City for 29 years as a CFO for two financial firms. Patterson served on the Chatham Township Committee for three years and was mayor in 2000. Patterson now works as an independent consultant for securities firms. He is also a Red Cross volunteer.
Evan Skinner, a long time Chatham resident, has four children who are in college or starting their working careers. Skinner has been active in the PTO, and currently serves as an elder in her church. In addition, she is involved in the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown and the Family Promise program.

Like most members who join the squad, these new members have no prior medical experience. However, the squad has enrolled them in a comprehensive emergency medical technician program, taught by emergency medical professionals, from which they will emerge as New Jersey accredited EMTs.
“We have a strong membership but we are always on the lookout for people who like people," Squad Officer Teresa Binning said. "People who are interested in education and learning. People who enjoy taking action. The Squad offers a unique opportunity to connect with our community."
