Chatham High School Hosting Hazardous Waste, Electronics Disposal Day

Morris County residents are invited to bring their items to CHS Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If household hazardous waste and electronic devices have been piling up without a safe place to dispose of them, Morris County residents may drop them off at Chatham High School during its hazardous waste and electronics disposal day.

The disposal, sponsored by Morris County’s Municipal Utilities Authority, will take place Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school located at 255 Lafayette Ave.

Acceptable electronic devices include fax machines, televisions, computers, monitors, laptops, printers, scanners and audio equipment. Acceptable household hazardous waste include antifreeze, batteries, fire extinguishers, fluorescent tubes, motor oil, mercury, oil paints and stains, pesticides and other similar items.

There is no limit to the amount of hazardous waste per household except 55 gallons of used motor oil and no more than 100 pounds of asbestos per person.

Tires, smoke detectors, medical wastes and appliances are not permitted. Latex paint is also not accepted, but can be allowed to dry until solid and then disposed of with regular household garbage.
