Chatham Resident of 40 Years, Longtime Volunteer Dies at 80

Stanley Bess had four grandchildren.

CHATHAM – During his four decades in Chatham, Stanley Metcalf Boss did what he could to make the community better.

The longtime resident died at the age of 80 recently.

Bess graduated University of Utah and met his future wife Pamela while living in Denver. They moved to Chatham, where they lived for 40 years, until 2005.

Bess spent 20 years working at J.C. Penney, then went into private investing. Prior to his professional days, Bess was a member of the United States Army 10th Mountain Division, serving in Germany in 1956 and 1957.

Bess was previously the Chairman of the Board of Chatham Savings and Loan, a United Methodist Homes board member, Chatham PTA President, and member of the Chatham Fish & Game Club.

Bess is survived by his wife, Pamela, of 52 years; three children; and four grandchildren.
