Chatham School District Plans To Discuss Fall Mask Mandates Soon

The School District of the Chathams will 'make determinations about next year' in the coming weeks, superintendent Dr. Michael LaSusa said.

CHATHAM, NJ — With Governor Phil Murphy’s announcement on Monday that districts can now choose whether or not masks will be required when students return to school in September, the School District of the Chathams’ superintendent said the topic will be up for discussion in the near future.

“We have not yet discussed this issue in light of the Governor's announcement this week, but will do so within the coming weeks and then make determinations about next year,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael LaSusa told Patch on Wednesday.

Murphy made the announcement, unveiling the New Jersey Department of Education’s “The Road Forward Health and Safety Guidance for the 2021-2022 School Year” document, which is expected to replace Murphy’s Executive Order 175 from March 2020, as well as protocols New Jersey schools used during the 2020-2021 school year.
