Chatham Students in Morris County Honor Choir

Chatham High School's music director sponsored four singers for the choir.

Four members of the Chatham High School Choral Music Program were recently accepted for membership in the 2011 Morris County Honor Choir.

Sophomore Alexandra Cote, Juniors Sophie Kapica and Christophe Strunc, and Freshman Devynn Pedell were sponsored by CHS Choral Director Barbara Klemp and accepted as members following a competitive audition process in early October.

This year’s conductor was retired music educator Joseph Mello, who taught for 36 years at Kittatinny Regional High School and is a sought-after honor choir conductor. During his public school career, Mello conducted the NJ All-State Chorus, NJ Region I Chorus, and in 2010 was named New Jersey’s Master Music Teacher.

After weeks of rehearsal, the 100-voice choir performed at Randolph High School on Friday, November 18th in a program which featured choral repertoire standards including We Are the Music Makers, Flower of Beauty, If Music Be the Food of Love, Sure On This Shining Night, Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel, and the Finale Chorus from Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic operetta, The Gondoliers.  Also performing on the program were the Montclair University elite choir, Vocal Accord, under the direction of Martin Sedek.
