McGrath could be seen umpiring Chatham Little League games for decades, and was recognized by the community for his efforts in 1969 and 1996.
When Elsa passed away in 2002, McGrath found a new passion in following Chatham Township High School’s girls sports, where he was dubbed the Number One Fan by parents and players. For each new season of volleyball, basketball, and softball, he wore a t-shirt with each team player’s name and jersey number.
