Crime in Chatham Up Nearly 7 Percent from Last Year During Same Time Window

See which crimes went down and which increased according to a new report by the NJ Department of Law and Public Safety.

A recent crime report by the State of New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety showed that Chatham Boro experienced a slight uptick in crime between January and June of this year as compared to last year.

Though most reported incidents are relatively low, the report revealed that crime went up 6.7 percent this year, with 32 offenses in categories that included robbery, assault, burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft as opposed to 30 in 2013.

Assault with a dangerous weapon dropped to no reported incidents while simple assault stayed at five incidents. There was one case each of strong arm robbery and robbery with a knife as opposed to none last year.

Forcible-entry burglary went up by two cases, with four being reported in contrast to last year’s two. Unlawful entry went down to three from four, and attempted forcible entry went up to eight incidents from last year’s six.

Larceny is up to 17 cases compared to last year’s 13, while motor vehicle theft has completed stagnated. No motor or other vehicle theft was reported between January and June of this year, whereas the area had five reported incidents last year.
