Five Things We're Thankful For In Chatham

Patch is sharing what they're thankful for in the Chathams. What is on your list?

CHATHAM, NJ - On this day of giving thanks we thought it only appropriate to share our thoughts on the five things we are most thankful for in Chatham. Our list is far from complete, but with so many things to choose from that should come as no surprise. So here were some thoughts that readily leapt to mind, in no particular order.

Five Things We're Thankful For In Chatham

1. There are two of them. Talk about double the fun! Two governing bodies, two police departments...almost everything but two school districts exists in Chatham. Both Chatham Township and Chatham Borough are unique, and dynamic and yet both undeniably Chatham.

2. Contested elections. You shouldn't be surprised at this one, we are journalists after all. The fact that there are people excited, engaged and wanting to serve the public as elected officials is a wonderful thing that should be celebrated. This recent election saw upsets in both Chatham Township and Chatham Borough and seeing so many read our coverage and express themselves at the polls is something we are grateful for.

3. Exemplary school district. It is widely known that the School District of the Chathams is the gold standard that everyone holds themselves to. The staff, the students, the administrators are all pulling in one direction and that is education excellence and everyone who comes in contact with them knows it.

4. Volunteer first responders. For over 80 years, the Chatham Emergency Squad has been serving the surrounding communities and never charged for its services. They also are a 100 percent all-volunteer agency and that is awe-inspiring.

We appreciate your visits and contributions, and we want you to know we take nothing for granted here. Almost nine years ago, on Dec. 28, 2009, Chatham Patch launched. We were one of the very first towns to get a Patch, and we've come a long way. You, the reader, are a big reason why.
