Free Saplings Available In Chatham Twp. As Arbor Day Approaches
Sapling pickup will take place Saturday at the municipal building.
CHATHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ — Here's one way to make Arbor Day count. Saplings will be available Saturday in Chatham Township. Pickup will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the municipal building on the senior center side.
Many New Jersey towns, including 11 in Morris County, will give away free trees as Arbor Day approaches. New Jersey recognizes the holiday on the last Friday in April, which is April 30 this year.

The Garden State first celebrated Arbor Day in 1884. The nation's first Arbor Day occurred 12 years prior in Nebraska, where more than one million trees were planted. Each state had a law designating Arbor Day by the 1920s.
