CHATHAM, NJ — As a way to foster support for Chatham Borough eateries and encourage people to get out for a night of fun with their family and friends, Chatham Borough’s Mayor, Council and sponsors, are hosting another night of music in Reasoner Park on Thursday night, July 8, kicking off at 6:30 p.m.

After taking a hiatus the week before Independence Day, the concert series is back with the Chatham Community Band scheduled for a performance on Thursday night.

Attendees can bring along lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, with Mayor Thaddeus Kobylarz telling people at the borough’s last Council Meeting in June, these free concerts are not just a way for families to spend time together, but to hopefully grab some take-out to support Chatham Borough’s restaurants.

The Spring Serenades began on May 20, with the free concerts now scheduled to take place most Thursday nights through Sept. 2.

During the spring, the council spearheaded the redesign of the seating area in Reasoner Park, with more picnic tables and lighting by the gazebo, to support the existing and new eateries in the borough. In the midst of the pandemic, new restaurants opened their doors in Chatham, among them Fleur De Sel, Asahda’s Soul Food, Mexican Spice, Namkeen Hot Chicken, Sonny’s Indian Kitchen and Scoops The Chatham Creamery.

Kobylarz compared the phenomenon of the new businesses during the dark undertones of the pandemic to a renaissance for the downtown.
