CHATHAM, NJ — With the holiday weekend ahead and summer overall an ideal time to refresh with some creamy goodness, Scoops The Chatham Creamery has some ice cream offerings for the Independence Day weekend and beyond.

Each person in the United States eats about 23 gallons of ice cream on an average each year, which was among the reasons why the International Dairy Foods Association says July was set by Presidential Proclamation in 1984 as National Ice Cream Month, with the third Sunday in July celebrated as National Ice Cream Day.

One of Chatham’s newest establishments on 228 Main Street that rose up during the pandemic and gained recognition as part of Chatham’s renaissance from Borough Mayor Thaddeus J. Kobylarz, Scoops boasts more than 30 Gifford’s Ice Cream varieties, plus carries some Emack & Bolio’s vegan ice creams, as well as serving up sundaes, milkshakes and soft serve ice cream. They also have ice cream cakes (requires 48 hours notice for customization), ice cream pies (needing 24 hours notice), sliders (chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches), build-your-own sundae kits and other delicious choices.

Their ice cream menu with more than 30 types features classic standard flavors, plus some more unexpected varieties, like “Unicorn Delight” (vanilla with pastel confetti and “ultraviolet” bubble gum), “Lobster Tracks” (with lobster-hued chocolate caramels and an eclair crunch) and “King’s Road” (vanilla with pretzels and caramel).

For the July 4th weekend, Scoops is offering their Mega-Sundae Kit, with two quarts of ice cream, four chocolate chip cookies, eight ice cream cones and four toppings of five-ounces each for $39.99.
