Janis Ian Opens New Season of Sanctuary Concert Series
The folk singer from South Jersey will perform on Saturday, Sept. 20.

Janis Ian will open the new season of the Sanctuary Concert Series next month at the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township.
The folk singer and songwriter from South Jersey is known for her hits, “At Seventeen,” “Jesse” and “Society’s Child.”
“Jesse” has been recorded by many others, including Mel Torme and Cher and the seminal “At Seventeen” garnered in 1975 five Grammy nominations (the most any solo female artist has ever earned).

Reviewers have called Ian’s live performances “overwhelming to the spirit and soul” and “drenched with such passion, the audience feels they’ve been swept up in a hurricane.” She also publishes short stories, writes songs for film and television, and runs a foundation, named for her mother, that provides college scholarships in perpetuity.
In recent years, Ian has done few live concerts, instead spending time writing her autobiography (Society’s Child), recording its Best Spoken Word Grammy-winning audiobook version, and publishing a children’s book, The Tiny Mouse.
