Korean War Vet, Chatham Cemetery Superintendent Dies at 83

Robert E. Hart lived in town for 23 years.

Robert E. Hart, Jr. spent his entire life in Morris County.

The Korean War Veteran died recently at the age of 83.

Hart was born and raised in Morristown, then lived in Parsippany for 11 years before landing in Chatham for more than two decades. He moved back to Parsippany in 1994, where he stayed.

Hart served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from Sept. 3, 1950 until his honorable discharge on March 1, 1951.

He worked for the Fairmont Cemetery in Chatham for more than 40 years before retiring as the superintendent.

Hart was also a member of the National Rifle Association. He is survived by his wife, June, two sons, two daughters, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 at the Parsippany-Troy Hills Funeral Home, with visitation set for Friday, Aug. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
