Longtime Chatham Fire Dept. Member, Business Owner Mourned
William 'Tut' Weichert IV, 55, was a member of the Chatham Fire Department for 32 years.
CHATHAM, NJ — William "Tut" Weichert IV was a member of the Chatham Fire Department for 32 years. People knew Weichert for his infectious smile, sense of humor and generosity to all, according to his obituary.
The 55-year-old died peacefully in his sleep March 7 at his fishing camp in Placida, Florida. A funeral mass took place Saturday at St. Patrick's Church (see photos above).
Weichert owned Chatham Main Contractors, where he treated his employees like family. He also loved taking pictures and always had a camera instructing all to "get together" whenever his loved ones were near, according to his obituary.

Among his other interested, Weichert was an accomplished race car driver, building his own cars "from the ground up" and competing at Wall Stadium in Monmouth County. Weichert was also an avid fisherman at his parents' farm in New Hampshire, the Whitney Farm, and on the coasts of New Jersey and Florida.
He was a lifelong communicant at St. Patrick's Church, part of the Morris County Fife & Drum and Summit Elks, and he was the adjutant of Sons of American Legion.

"He was truly devoted to his family and was a friend for life, whether you met him five minutes or 50 years ago," his obituary says.
