Milton Avenue Elementary Wins National Blue Ribbon Award

The school was one of only nine in the state to receive the honor.

Milton Avenue Elementary in Chatham was one of the nine in the state that received a National Blue Ribbon Award for its outstanding performance and growth.

The winners were announced Sept. 30 by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. Schools in each state are nominated annually by their respective Chief State School Officer. All nominated schools must meet their state’s annual measurable objectives.

“I want to congratulate the students, parents, and educators at these nine high-performing schools for their dedication to excellence and for providing programs that will prepare their students to graduate ready for college and career,” said New Jersey’s acting Commissioner of Education David Hespe. “It truly is a great honor for a school to receive such national recognition for all the hard work that goes into education every day.”
