Over 100 Destinations Registered For Chatham-Madison Yard Sale

CHATHAM, NJ — Chatham and Madison are set to become a giant yard sale. The Chatham-Madison Town-Wide Yard Sale, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, has 105 households and organizations registered.

The yard sale will occur rain or shine. Here's the digital map and a spreadsheet that lists addresses and items for sale. Shoppers are asked to wear masks, and yard-sale hosts should provide hand sanitizer and facilitate social distancing.

The Library of the Chathams will hold an outdoor book sale that will feature donated books, CDs and puzzles that were stranded in the library basement since the start of the pandemic. Book sale co-chairs Debbie Fabian and Maureen Kelly thought the town-wide yard sale was the perfect time to display the donated books.

“People are clamoring for books,” Fabian said. “This is a great way to support the community.”

In Madison, the Independent Thrift Store (39 Kings Rd.) will donate 10 percent of the day's proceeds to the Great Swamp Watershed Association.

The Environmental Commissions of Madison and the Chathams are working to make this a zero-waste event. They've asked yard-sale hosts to donate leftovers to local charities. Among the groups that will pick up donations of clothing and household items are the Vietnam Veterans of America, GreenDrop, the Market Street Mission and Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, which does some pickups and accepts antiques, furniture, flooring, brand new plumbing, painting supplies, doors and more.

Those hosting sales were encouraged to pay a $10, tax-deductible registration fee to the Great Swamp Watershed Association. The organization dedicates itself to preserving and protecting water in natural areas.
