In-Person Council Meetings Return To Chatham Borough

CHATHAM, NJ — With COVID-19’s transmission rate having dropped to a more comfortable level, Chatham Borough’s Council plans to hold its next council meeting in-person and at its pre-pandemic start time of 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 12.

During the pandemic, meetings have been held online at 6 p.m.

“We are thrilled to be in this position,” said Chatham Borough Mayor Thaddeus Kobylarz.

Kobylarz reported at the most recent council meeting, there will be some safeguards in place, however, for the upcoming meeting.

Masks will be required for meeting attendees, the meetings will continue to be livestreamed over the borough’s Facebook Page as they have been since the pandemic, for a hybrid experience; and the in-person capacity for the meeting will be 25 people.

These precautions are planned to stay in effect, Kobylarz said, at least until the virus transmission rate has fallen below 0.5 percent consistently and at the advice of the borough’s health officer.

Borough Hall also dropped its appointment requirement beginning on July 1, with its own set of provisions. With employees in the vulnerable age group between their 60s and 70s and susceptible to COVID-19, Kobylarz said visitors to the building must wear masks, as well as sign in, for contact tracing purposes.
