Presbyterian Church to Host "Radio Church"

Easter Sunrise Service to be Held from Parking Lot to Accommodate Social Distancing

(PCCT)

This Easter, houses of worship are finding ways to safely accommodate the anticipated large crowds that traditionally attend church on this holy Christian holiday. The Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township (PCCT) has found a clever solution by hosting what they call “Radio Church.” On Easter Sunday, April 4 starting at 7 am from the parking lot of the church, the community is invited to drive-in and park in the parking lot, tune into the service on their car radio, and remain in the comfort of their own car for the duration of the service.

The 7am Easter service will be broadcast over PCCT’s FM radio frequency 92.5 using an FM digital transmitter and led from the parking lot by the pastors and musicians of PCCT. Easter music, scriptures, sermon, and communion will be included in the service. For a special treat during COVID times when group singing is discouraged, participants will be invited to sing the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah from inside their own car. The PCCT broadcast extends across only 500 yards of airway, so participants need to be in the PCCT parking lot to hear the service.

The sunrise Easter service will be the third time PCCT has hosted “Radio Church.” Christmas Eve and Ash Wednesday provided other opportunities to broadcast services over the airwaves.

“Radio Church has allowed us to gather together safely at church again,” said PCCT’s new Pastor, Rev. Dr. Ellen C. Clémot. “And it’s fun! The radio transmission enables participants to worship, see each other from their cars, share in communion, and even sing. This Easter we bring the timpani and trumpets outside as we broadcast the joy of Resurrection Hope for all to share. The whole community is invited to join us! All are welcome.”

Later on Easter morning, PCCT will also offer a traditional worship service livestreamed from the sanctuary. From the comfort of their own homes, viewers can tune in at 10 am on the church website www.pcct-nj.org or on its YouTube channel. The worship service includes special Easter music, sermon, scriptures, and communion. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Easter together.
