No Surprises In Chatham Township, Borough Council Primaries

CHATHAM, NJ — The polls are closed, and precincts have reported results for the uncontested Chatham Borough Council and Chatham Township Committee elections.

Chatham Borough incumbent Democrat Councilwomen Jocelyn Mathiasen and Carolyn Dempsey ran uncontested in the primary for their seats and will face Republicans Freddie Bicknese and Patrick Grady in November’s election.

Chatham Township Committee's primary was also uncontested on both Democrat and Republican sides, but that will change too in the General Election.

Incumbent Democrat Mayor Tracy Ness decided in April she would not run again, but instead endorsed Katherine “Kathy” Abbott. Republican Daniel R. Bevere plans to run against Abbott for Ness’ seat in November.

Here are the real-time results for Chatham's elections:

Chatham Borough Council (two seats up for election, both sides uncontested, will run against each other in November)

• Jocelyn Mathiasen (D) - 378
• Carolyn Dempsey (D) - 386
• Freddie Bicknese (R) - 310
• Patrick Grady (R) - 323
• Write-In (R) - 5

Chatham Township Committee (one seat up for election, both sides uncontested, each candidate will run for the seat in the General Election)

• Katherine “Kathy” Abbott (D) - 278
• Daniel R. Bevere (R) - 499
• Write-In (R) - 4

The results of both of these races will be official once the Morris County Clerk’s Office certifies each of them, after all mail-in ballots are tallied.
