Rugby, Crosswalks and Elections

What you need to know this week.

Each Monday we welcome you back to the work week with a look at what to expect in the Chathams. From content you'll find on Patch as the week goes on to community activities, here's what you need to know this week:

You need to know about crosswalks: Weather permitting, Chatham residents will soon have crosswalks along Main Street again. The crosswalks were removed in 2012 when the state repaved Route 124 through Madison and Chatham. Painting will happen overnight, from 9 p.m. through 6 a.m., and could cause traffic delays.

You need to know about Everbridge: Chatham Township has officially switched from Nixle to Everbridge as their alert system. We'll bring you a look at this new system, and interviews with the Chatham Township Police on this new system.

You need to know about high school reunions: The Chatham Borough Council will vote on a resolution proclaiming this coming weekend, May 31 through June 2, Chatham High School Class of 1963 Weekend. Members of the class of 1963 will tour Chatham Middle School and downtown Chatham Borough, and have their 50th reunion celebrations in town this weekend.

You need to know about primary candidates: Chatham Township residents registered as Republicans will vote next week in a contested primary election for the township committee. We'll bring you profiles of the three candidates for the two available committee seats.

You need to know about rugby: It's not tackle, but flag rugby is coming to Chatham this year! We'll bring you all the information, teach you about hookers (it's a real position!) and flanks and tries and scrums, and let you know how you can sign up to play in flag rugby (and no, it's not through the Chatham Recreation department.)
