On Sunday, March 10th, The Suburban Music Study Club of NJ held its annual Grace Gimbel Scholarship Competition and Recital at Chatham United Methodist Church. New Jersey high school musicians competed with their performances of classical music: from Bach to Beethoven, and Chopin to Ravel. Scholarships were awarded to cellist Christy Choi, 16, for first place ($3,000), pianist Sherwin Pan, 18, for second place ($2000), and cellist Robin Park, 17, for third place ($1000). Also awarded were $300 Honor Awards to recitalists: pianist Kelsey Lee, 18, pianist Marina Lee, 17, and violinist Dylan Hamme, 15. All of Sunday's competitors were chosen from a first round of video auditions. Adjudicating the competition were New Jersey musicians: Michael Avagliano, Vincent Clark, and James Manno.

The Suburban Music Study Club of NJ is a local and regional music club based in Madison and holds monthly classical music recitals on Thursday mornings at the Chase Room of the Madison Public Library. The club holds a Young Artists Invitational Concert for middle and high school musicians in the fall and the Scholarship Competition in the Spring. The club has existed since 1899 and welcomes all to its monthly recitals and rejoices in helping the next generation of classical musicians.
