$20K In CARES Act Money Available For Cherry Hill Nonprofits

Many nonprofits are struggling as they take on additional services amid the coronavirus pandemic.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Up to $20,000 in federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Securities (CARES) Act funding is now available to Cherry Hill nonprofit organizations that have been negatively impacted by the pandemic, township officials announced Monday night.

“Cherry Hill is a community that uplifts and supports one another when it matters most, and our non-profit partners play a critical role in this,” Cherry Hill Mayor Susan Shin Angulo said. “I’m thrilled to be able to offer this assistance to our non-profits who time and again step up to care for our most vulnerable.”

“This program supports non-profits to have an impact on people who are most in need,” Cherry Hill Council President David Fleisher said. “Council is proud to partner with our grassroots organizations to make a difference in people’s lives.”

Many nonprofits are suffering financially, as they find themselves offering increased services to those in need who have lost their jobs or face additional financial struggles due to the coronavirus pandemic, officials said.

Nonprofits that are interested in applying can find more information on the township’s website at https://www.cherryhill-nj.com/1302/Non-Profit-Grants. Recipients will be chosen based on a number of criteria that are provided in the grant application.

Nonprofits may apply for eligible activities that are proposed, current, or that date back to April 1, 2020. Proof of payment and receipts will be required to receive funds for the reimbursement program.

Federal regulations define the parameters for using Community Development Block Grant funds according to the national objectives. They also specify eligible program activities. Copies of these regulations are available on HUD’s website at https://www.hudexchange.info/manage-a-program.

Cherry Hill was allocated federal funds through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) CDBG-CV program, authorized by the CARES Act, took effect on March 27, 2020, to help prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus pandemic.

A portion of these funds has been set aside to assist nonprofits organizations that serve Cherry Hill.
