Basketball Tournament To Battle Addiction In Cherry Hill April 6

The 3-on-3 round-robin tournament will take place at Cherry Hill High School West.

CHERRY HILL, NJ - A Cherry Hill organization will host a basketball tournament to bring awareness and support to individuals and families who are dealing with opioid addiction.

Hometeam Hoops will host a round-robin 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Saturday, April 6, at Jones Gym in Cherry Hill High School West. A playoff game follows the round-robin portion of the tournament.

The inaugural tournament was put together after Ben Saltzburg, an active basketball coach in the South Jersey area, lost his life to addiction in August, according to the tournament’s organizers. He was the brother of Hometeam Hoops members Alex and Katie Saltzburg.

“His passing succeeded the passing of three close friends over the last few years from the Cherry Hill area,” organizers said in an email. “Seeing other friends and family affected by the opioid epidemic, Alex and Katie, along with a few close friends of Ben's, organized the tournament to raise awareness and donations to help support individuals and families battling drug addiction.”

The tournament takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The school is located at 2101 Chapel Avenue West. Attendees can purchase tickets for a number of raffles over the course of the day. To sign up to play in the tournament, players ages 18+ can visit eventbrite.com to register by March 31.
