Marlton-based Cherry Hill Land Associates, the so-called stalking horse bidder that set the floor of $6.25 million, went well over that mark, outbidding three others—the Union League of Philadelphia, Camden County and an investment group led by Camden County Democratic Party leader George E. Norcross III—to win the club.

While the 84-year-old golf club sits on land currently zoned institutional—meaning it could be developed in a narrow scope, mostly for medical or educational purposes—Mayor Chuck Cahn, members of council and the freeholder board all reiterated their opposition to development of any sort after Marlton-based Cherry Hill Land Associates narrowly won the bidding with a $10.1 million offer.

A reopening under The Village at Woodcrest name could happen within just a few weeks, according to one of the principals in the development group that purchased the club for $10.1 million at auction this week.
