Cherry Hill Police Chief To Retire After 26 Years Of Service
Chief William "Bud" Monaghan has announced he will retire in October, after 26 years of service with the Cherry Hill Police Department.
CHERRY HILL, NJ — Cherry Hill Police Chief William “Bud” Monaghan will retire in October after serving with the Cherry Hill Police Department for 26 years, the chief announced Wednesday evening. The process to select his successor will play out over the next several months, the police department said in a news release.
“Working for the Cherry Hill Police Department and serving the Cherry Hill community has been the honor of a lifetime,” Monaghan said. “I want to thank all those who put their faith in me these past several years.”
Monaghan joined the department in 1995 and rose through the ranks. He was appointed Chief of Police in January 2014, the police department said.

Under Monaghan’s leadership, the Cherry Hill Police Department has instituted several community-based programs aimed at connecting police with the public.
Monaghan specifically focused on building close ties with various civic, cultural, youth, and religious groups, and has developed strong relationships with the many facets of Cherry Hill’s population. See related: Cherry Hill Police Chief Invites Protesters To Meet With Officers

“I want to thank Chief Monaghan for his 26 years of service and leadership to the Township and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” Mayor Susan Shin Angulo said.
Monaghan has also regularly attended community meetings to discuss issues facing Cherry Hill’s neighborhoods and has often taken the time to personally follow up with residents himself.

“Chief Monaghan has been a valued partner in building bridges across all corners of our community,” Council President David Fleisher said. “Town Council and I are grateful for his distinguished service and leadership.”
