Sobriety Checkpoint Set For Cherry Hill

The goal of the checkpoint is to deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers, Cherry Hill police said on Thursday.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Cherry Hill police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint during the late evening hours the weekend of June 4, police announced on Thursday.

The goal of the checkpoint is to deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers, police said in the announcement. High-visibility enforcement and media attention have made checkpoints an effective tool in removing impaired drivers from the roadways, police said.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 10,710 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes across the United States in 2019. Of the 558 traffic fatalities in New Jersey in 2019, 103 were killed as a result of alcohol involvement. That equals 18 percent of the total fatalities reported that year.
