Cherry Hill West Baseball Team Advances In Diamond Classic

Top-seeded Cherry Hill West defeated Haddon Township, 5-1, in the first round of the Diamond Classic on Monday.

CHERRY HILL, NJ - The Cherry Hill High School West baseball team fell into an early deficit, but came alive in the fourth inning of its first round Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic game and never looked back.

Cherry Hill West, the No. 1 seed in South Jersey’s unofficial championship tournament, defeated No. 16 Haddon Township, 5-1, on Monday, according to nj.com.

Haddon Township went up 1-0 in the top of the first inning, and that’s how the game stayed until the bottom of the fourth, when Nick Jester knocked in a pair of runs. The Lions had two outs and Jester was facing a full count when he laced a line drive to right field that brought in two runs.

Three more runs came in the fifth for the Lions. Brian Robertson threw a complete game, striking out four batters and allowing five hits to pick up the win. Tyler Kubrak was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Cherry Hill West will face No. 8 Haddonfield in the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 11, at Deptford, 10 a.m. The winner will play in a semifinal at 4 p.m. the same day. The final is set for Wednesday night, May 15, 6:30 p.m. at Eastern. To view the full bracket, visit nj.com.
