A fast start for Cherry Hill East wasn't enough to overcome a relentless Williamstown squad, as the Cougars fell, 3-1, in the opening round of the South Jersey, Group 4 girls soccer tournament.
East's Bianca Christophe fired home the game's first goal just 5:41 into the first half, after Williamstown keeper Taylor Bynoe couldn't corral a crossing pass in the box, to give East the lead.
But it'd be a lead they'd only hold for five minutes—Williamstown's Ashley Engler lobbed a shot over East keeper Nicki Zaso at the 9:58 mark, and the two teams couldn't puncture the other's defense the rest of the half.

East opened the second half strong, getting three chances inside the first three minutes—but a defensive clear, a shot that clanged off the left post and another that sailed a foot above the crossbar left the Cougars with nothing to show for the effort.
Williamstown took the lead for good on Mary Kate Ulmer's shot over a leaping Zaso at the 23:08 mark, and pushed it to 3-1 with five minutes to go, when Morgan Myers chipped one in off a corner.
