Joyce Walker, Late Cherry Hill Councilwoman, to Be Laid to Rest
Services for Walker will be held Friday morning.

Cherry Hill's first-ever black councilwoman will be laid to rest Friday, following a funeral service for family and friends.
Joyce Alexander Walker, who fellow Democrats called a pioneer and a principled, passionate leader, died Saturday of cancer. She was 60 years old.
Walker served two terms on the township council, beginning in 1997, and was its vice president during her second term. She also served as co-chair of the local Democratic Party and was chairwoman of the Cherry Hill Board of Fire Commissioners at the time of her death.

Services for Walker are scheduled for 11 a.m. at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church on Route 70, following a viewing at the church between 9 and 10:30 a.m.
A viewing for Walker's family and friends will also be held Thursday evening, between 7 and 9 p.m., at Schetter Funeral Home on Route 70.

Walker will be entombed at Locustwood Memorial Park following the funeral Friday.
In lieu of flowers, Walker's family is asking for contributions in her memory to be made to Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300, Marlton, NJ, 08053, or to the American Cancer Society, 1851 Old Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill, NJ, 08034.
