Ravitzes Debut Liquor Store, Renovated ShopRite

Big changes came about because of consumer demand, executives said.

Cherry Hill’s two ShopRites unveiled some big changes Tuesday, showing off the renovated Evesham Road store and officially opening the liquor store within the Garden State Pavilions supermarket in a pair of morning ceremonies.

They were the final steps in a whirlwind of activity for the Ravitz family, which owns both grocery stores, and represents an effort to modernize the stores and respond to demand across the township.

“A lot of that is really what the customers were asking for,” said owner Shawn Ravitz. “The timing was right.”

Adding wine, beer and spirits to the Garden State Pavilions store didn’t take long—it’ll officially open Wednesday morning to the public, about six months after the family won the license, and barely nine weeks after construction started.

“We’re excited to get started working in this business,” Shawn Ravitz said. “In the long run, we know this is going to pay off.”

Besides the typical selection, the new liquor store will also have a sizeable kosher wine selection.

“We’re trying to create an easier place to shop, an easier place to find everything you need for dinner,” Shawn Ravitz said.

About 35 new jobs are being created at the two stores—roughly a dozen at the liquor store, and the rest at the Evesham Road location—in addition to about 400 existing jobs at both stores.

The renovations at the Evesham Road store have also added a wok with freshly made hot Asian stir-fry and sushi created by Mikado, and a Kosher Experience.

With the two major Cherry Hill projects now complete, the family’s attention will now turn to its planned Camden location on the Admiral Wilson Boulevard.

“We’ll be working for the next 18 months making sure we get a first-class supermarket in Camden,” Shawn Ravitz said. “It’s going to be spectacular.”
