Smoke in Science Lab Prompts Cherry Hill East Evacuation

The school was cleared out for about 15 minutes Tuesday morning.

A smoky chemistry experiment led to a brief evacuation at Cherry Hill East Tuesday morning, but no students were hurt and there wasn't any major damage, school officials said.

An experiment involving burning sugar set off fire alarms just before 9 a.m., and students and staff were evacuated from the building for about 15 minutes while Cherry Hill firefighters responded to the scene.

Classes resumed following the evacuation, school officials said.
