CHERRY HILL, NJ — After a one-year hiatus, a basketball tournament that honors two brothers who both died of cancer returns to Cherry Hill this summer.
The Betty and Milton Katz Jewish Community Center (Katz JCC) will host its 15th annual Eric and Andy Sussman Memorial 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament the final weekend of June, the center announced.
A tournament for players ages 18-and-up will be held at 7 p.m. on June 26, followed by a tournament for players ages 40-and-up at noon on June 27.

The event honors Eric and Andy Sussman, brothers who were JCC members and avid basketball players. They both passed away from cancer. Upon their passing, JCC members and friends of the Sussman brothers started a fundraiser and charity tournament.
What started out as a small event in 2004 has grown bigger each year. Proceeds from this event benefit Katz JCC Youth Basketball Programs.

It was held for 14 years, but wasn’t played in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. As the pandemic wanes, the state continues to reopen and tournaments such as this can resume.
“We are proud to keep the memory of the Sussman brothers alive through this tribute event each year and are honored to be hosting our 15th annual event,” JCC Sports and Leagues Director Bryan Lentine said.
All tournament participants receive a commemorative t-shirt and prizes will be awarded to tournament winners. Registration is $80 for a JCC member team and $100 for a guest team. Pre-registration is encouraged.
