Tryouts Coming Up For Youth Swim Team In Cherry Hill

CHERRY HILL, NJ — The Betty and Milton Katz Jewish Community Center (Katz JCC) invites children in the community to try out for the Katz JCC Sharks Swim Team, a competitive winter swim team for ages 6-18.

The Sharks compete against other competitive South Jersey swim teams and JCCs in the Mid-Atlantic region as part of the Mid-Atlantic Swim League and Greater South Jersey Swim League.

In addition to South Jersey, the Sharks see competition from Baltimore, Delaware, Harrisburg and Allentown. The season runs from September 2019 through March 2020.

All swimmers, new and returning, must attend a tryout on Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Katz JCC Indoor Pool.

• Tryouts for children ages 8-and-under will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• Tryouts for children ages 9-10 will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• Tryouts for children ages 11-and-older will be held from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

New swimmers must also attend an additional tryout later that week.

• On Monday, Sept. 16, tryouts for children Ages 8-and-under will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• On Wednesday, Sept. 18, tryouts for children ages 9-10 will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• On Thursday, Sept. 19, tryouts for children ages 11-and-older will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“We are really looking forward to this year, as we welcome our new head swim coach, Bill Albertson to the team,” Katz JCC Aquatics Director Jared Kaufman said. “He has nearly 40 years of experience in and around the pool and is a recent retiree of Washington Township High School where he was a Physical Education teacher for 34 years. Over the past six years, he served as an assistant coach to the Lake Kandle summer swim team. He is incredibly excited to join the JCC Sharks and is already looking forward to watching all of his swimmers improve throughout the season.”
