2 Coronavirus Cases Reported At Clark Schools

Both Arthur L. Johnson High School and Carl H. Kumpf Middle School remain closed to in-person learners through Friday, Dec. 4.

CLARK, NJ — Two positive coronavirus cases have been reported at two Clark schools, the district announced Monday.

One positive COVID-19 case was reported at Arthur L. Johnson High School and another at Carl H. Kumpf Middle School, said Superintendent of Schools Edward Grande.

Potential close contacts of these positive cases have already been notified separately, said Grande.

Both the high school and middle school are already closed to in-person learners through Friday, Dec. 4.

Other schools in the district were not impacted by these cases, said Grande.

"Kindly know that while we are not at liberty to share any additional information regarding these cases due to HIPAA guidelines, the cases are unrelated to each other and any prior cases in the district. To date, we have not had any additional positive cases arise from a positive case in school," said Grande.

On Nov. 20 the Clark Township Health Officer reported a total of 486 COVID-19 cases since March. Since Nov. 13 there have been 44 new cases, and 24 remain open.

Grande encouraged parents and students to continue following the CDC promoted safeguards such as:

  • Staying home when you are sick;
  • Washing hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds;
  • Covering coughs and sneezes, and properly disposing of tissues;
  • Limiting close contact with people who are sick, and not sharing food, drinks, and utensils;
  • Practicing social distancing (staying at least 6 feet apart);
  • Wearing a face covering while in school; and
  • Continuing to monitor your health for symptoms
