A witch boy who falls in love with a human girl is the premise of Arthur L. Johnson High School’s fall production of Dark of the Moon to be performed Thursday and Friday.
The story is set in the Great Smoky Mountains of Appalachia where the valley folk become highly suspicious of an outsider who has come into their lives and turns their world upside down.
Dark of the Moon, the popular American classic performed in high schools all around the country since its premiere on Broadway in 1945, is a “Romeo and Juliet” story told through the eyes of mountain folk in the 1930’s Depression era and is full of song, witchcraft, and intense emotion.
The play is directed by Peter Nevargic, who also plays a role in the show.
“This is truly an ensemble cast who work together to create a world that will captivate the audience," said Nevargic. "I am extremely proud of the work being done this year on the ALJ stage.”
