Flash Flood Watch Issued For Union County As Tropical Storm Nears
The storm is supposed to pack 60-mph winds, heavy rain, and possible localized flooding.
UNION COUNTY, NJ — A flash flood watch has been issued for Union County as Tropical Storm Fay approaches on Friday.

The flash flood watch, issued by the National Weather Service is in effect through this Friday night as heavy rain is expected throughout the day.

Widespread amounts of 1 to 4 inches are likely with locally higher amounts possible, according to the NWS.
With heavy rain expected to occur over a short period of time it is likely rapidly rising flood waters may quickly inundate roadways and areas of poor drainage. Streams and creeks could leave their banks, flooding nearby properties, according to the NWS.

Here is a look at the upcoming weekend weather:
Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 10 a.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. High near 78. East wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
Friday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between midnight and 3 a.m., then a chance of showers after 3 a.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 72. Windy, with a northeast wind 27 to 37 mph becoming southeast 7 to 12 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Saturday: A chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 10 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Heat index values as high as 99. South wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Saturday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 8 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph.
Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers before 10 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72.
